Kat - Mama to be Goodies Editor
Hello, my name is Kat. I first became a Mama in June 2007 and am currently working on bambino number two due Spring 2009. My little girl, ToddlerGeek, continues to delight and amaze me every day with her boundless enthusiasm.
Being pregnant throws you into a whole new world with exciting and daunting new shopping needs. First time around I was very naive and made some costly mistakes. Since joining the team at Bambino Goodies in May 2008 I have honed my shopping skills and I’m always on the look out for stylish, desirable, goodies for all the Mamas to be and their precious bambinos.
What product made your pregnancy easier?
I think it was less a product and more a class. I loved Yoga for Pregnancy and made some fantastic friends in the class who I still meet up with weekly. Although the classes were relatively expensive I think they were worth every penny.
What did you love about being pregnant?
I loved the excitement of getting bigger and feeling my little Boo wriggle around all day.
What did you hate about being pregnant?
I was a total worrier last time, I found it really hard to relax and go with the flow. This time around I already feel different and am feeling much more chilled about the whole thing.
Possibly the most annoying thing was going about three weeks overdue - I got really tired of waking up every morning feeling no closer to labour and hearing people say, “Anything happening yet?”
Best piece of advice you received about pregnancy or birth?
Being in water while labouring really helps. I knew everyone I spoke to who laboured or gave birth in water raved about how soothing it was but it wasn’t until I was in labour and got into a deep hospital bath that I really understood. The pain ebbed away and I felt able to relax and let go. I only had 30 minutes before I had to get out (meconium staining in my waters) but I felt so refreshed and much better for every minute in there.
Worst piece of advice you received about pregnancy or birth?
Everyone wants to add their two pennies when you’re pregnant. There was plenty of advice which didn’t suit us as a couple so we just ignored it and got on with doing things our way. Probably the most inaccurate advice was from a GP who told me I would probably never get pregnant naturally or it would at least take years - Er, first time both times :0)
What is your best piece of pregnancy shopping advice?
Take your time, especially over large ticket items. It can be easy to buy something you see early on only to replace it after your bambino arrives. Research these items and then keep an eye out for deals and sales so you get the best value for money.
